Persian New Year: A Night of Rumi

  • The Alchemist Kitchen 21 East 1st Street New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

Join us for this special celebration, featuring the poetry of RUMI, mystical stories, Persian vocals, percussion, and whirling Semazens, as we celebrate life, love, and the coming of Spring.

With Juliet Rabia Gentile, Haleh Liza & Amin Sarshar

Rumi wrote ecstatic love poems that are guides for inner transformation. Through his words sung in Persian as well as recited in new translations, we will hear about the experiences, joys, and challenges of his mystical journey, and delve with him into the sacred mystery of divine and human love. His inspiring words, the melodies, percussion, whirling, and group breathing and vocalization practices carried over fourteen centuries by Sufi mystics, like Rumi, Hafez, Rabia al Basra, and Khabir, will open our hearts, clear and focus our minds, and uplift our souls. We may experience for a time what they have meant by "one body, one breath."
